This That and The Other … WOW That Much

Last night there was a death in the house.

No, no, no. To quote Pastor John’s rule for the children’s sermon: nothing that was alive or has ever been alive. Tragic demise none the less. Our meeecro-waveahhhyyy. You’d think they’d build ’em to last more than a quarter of a century, huh.

On the surface it felt like a minor inconvenience. Then reality set in: this ain’t a weekend fix. It’s a weekday-after-work fix. That not-so-little magic box doesn’t just make popcorn and resurrect sketchy leftovers. It’s the timer for anything on the stove. And the real kicker — it’s the vent so we don’t start science experiments under the cabinets.

One device. A lot more than reheat. The multi-tool of the kitchen. Been the go-to since the house was built.

Reminds me of another multi-tool. One that’s been around a fair bit longer.

Christ taught in parables — stories — so we could tie this and that into His lessons.  (See what I did there!!)  Same words. Different jobs. Comfort one morning, a kick in the pants the next, a map when you’re lost in the kitchen. That’s why the Book still works when the little box on the wall doesn’t: it was never only one button.

Pray for discernment. Ask the Spirit to lead before you dive in. He’ll take the same page and hand you whatever today’s mess actually needs.

Just a thought from a guy followin’ his own advice while huntin’ the next kitchen multi-tool. Be on the lookout in a future AskAPop for what we landed on 🙂 ….
