Keepin’ Time and Appointments With Those That Matter

Time. Four letters. Packs a punch.

Y’know the minute hand on clocks really didn’t catch on till the railroads were around? ’Cause nobody needed to be that precise.

And let’s face it … even in the same town, across the street, if you were within four or five minutes of each other a couple decades ago, that was pretty much “synchronized.” Unless you were callin’ the time number to get the watches in line. And even then each one was different.

Invitin’ folks to somethin’ … now that’s a whole different kettle of fish. Look at today versus 40 years ago. Versus 100. Versus 500. A thousand. A few thousand.

Isaiah told everybody a King was comin’. One that would change everything. No Google Calendar. No fridge magnet. Hundreds of years later, shepherds in a field still got the invite — and they started spreadin’ the message. More than two millennia later we’re still puttin’ that same invite on Sundays and on the feast days we circled in ink.

He also promised He’d return. He didn’t hand us the date. He told us to keep watch. To tend what’s His until that day. Daily, weekly, yearly — not a countdown clock for the clouds, but appointments with the people and the work of the Kingdom.

Just a thought from a guy tryin’ to look after the least of these … who still wonders why they won’t send out magnetic calendars anymore. Is it because of the whole 2012 thing? 🙂

Questions

When you look at your calendar, how much of it is filled with what’s in His Kingdom??? (No judgment here.)
