Focusing On the Tasks At Hand … Perspective and Priorities

I’m gonna start with my two grandfathers on this one … Pappeye and Papa.

When it came to wrenches, cars, and teachin’ folks how to put one to the other, there was none better than Pappeye. He had this way of just LOOKIN’ at a bolt or nut and then sayin’, “Honey, go grab me the 5/8ths thingamabobbie in the 2nd shelf on the right-hand side.” He’d say it without lookin’ up. He was right. Every time. (They never did let me find out if there WAS eyes in the back of his head.)

Papa, on the other hand, was the bestest bread man this side of, well, ever. Since God Himself put manna down, Cecil Jr’s bread was the best. He could pick up a crate and tell you how many loaves were in it, and he’d be right. Every time. He taught me how to “face” the bread … not just ours, but our competitors’ too. Because it was the right thing to do, and it also let him see how many loaves were left on a shelf years before they had those fancy computers.

These two men amazed me at how well they did their jobs. Knowin’ where everything was and how to find it, immediately. Heck, me, I use a whole host of tools and still have Grok help me with fancy queries when I get deep in the woods … but it still ends up in the same place. We’re all about findin’ what we need, because it’s important.

Kinda reminds me of when Christ was talkin’ about the one sheep that got away. Whether it’s a screw loose (ha, see what I did there!), a loaf of bread, or a post missin’ a video … they all matter to someone.

Just as each and every one of those “someones” matters to Christ.

Just a thought from a guy that will never be able to do the things as well as his grandfathers … but, with any luck, I can still do them proud.
