My mom always told me God gave me two ears and one mouth for a reason (no comments from the peanut gallery necessary!). But she may have had a point… (again, I get it, I get it! 🙂)

I’ll never forget one day in my apartment during college when I was beltin’ out a song from my favorite artist and one of my best friends, Ken, asked me, “Who sings that?” It struck me, ’cause it was HIS favorite artist too. I said “Billy Joel.” Without missing a beat he informed me we should leave it that way. OUCH.

We were playin’ the Greatest Hits Vol. 2 record at the time. Ah, records… You know they’ve made a comeback. It’s neat hearin’ folks talk about them with awe and reverence when we used to just complain about them warpin’ and gettin’ scratches — and we were SO relieved when cassettes and finally CDs made it to the market. I guess, to quote the aforementioned Billy Joel, “the good ole days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.” (And I won’t sing it, don’t worry, Ken!)

It does seem that the more things change, the more they stay the same… or come back around. I guess that’s because what’s truly important really never goes out of style. Hmmm… I can definitely think of ONE thing that, through the years, may have changed a little around the edges but has always kept us all together as, literally, one family.
To borrow lyrics from another song, “washed by the fountain, cleansed by His blood…”

When we’re baptized, we’re entered into the family of God — joinin’ a covenant with literally millions of folks through time and miles that cannot be broken. Sealed by a choice that He made first and we confirmed.
If that’s not worth singin’ about, I’m not sure what is. 🙂
Just a thought from a guy still tappin’ his toes from yesterday’s hymns. Don’t worry — I’m only singin’ them in my head and will leave the outside versions to the pros!!!!
