That Grilled Cheese Will Never Look The Same Again

Ya know, the thing about an “observational ministry” is that we… well… “observational” 🙂 . And that’s exactly what I was doin’ as the last three or four bites of my grilled cheese sammich sat on the plate at lunch with Lil’Bit, my sweetie, and me.

The Spirit hit me. Kablowie! (Remember, I watch a LOT of toddler stuff!)

That sandwich looked and tasted NOTHING like two slices of bread and two slices of cheese (thank you, Mom, for teachin’ me how to make grilled cheese!). But that’s what started out on the counter.

Somethin’ happened between the bag and the table that made that bread different. Changed. And it could never go back again. The trip to the stove with the cast iron forever changed the cheese and the bread. (If you’ve never cooked grilled cheese with mayo… game changer. Trust me.) It will never be the same again. It can never go back to plain white bread. But it’s better. It’s been seasoned. It has purpose.

Sound familiar????

When we let Christ into our lives, it changes EVERYTHING. Lucky for us, Christ usually doesn’t have to go so big as to blind us the way He did Paul… but He does change us in real and tangible ways. From that point forward, because we have been forgiven of our past sins, we are no longer apart from our Father. The Spirit lives freely within us. And as I love to say… “seeing isn’t believing, believing is seeing.”

As someone who’s been in Christian Education for the better part of two decades and walking with Christ for over 30 years, the trip we planned to the Holy Land in 2019 was something I’d looked forward to as a way to “see what I’d read about.” Boy, was I wrong.

I felt like Paul for eleven straight days. That trip completely changed the way I saw everything — bringing new light into things I’d read about for decades. You’ve probably been able to tell from these posts that it was transformational.

Just a thought from a guy who definitely knows you can teach an old dog new tricks… although you can ask Toni — “sit” and “stay” are two she’s yet to get me to master!!!!
