Wanna know a secret?
Way back in the stone age — you know, back when we walked 75 miles to school in 17 feet of snow, uphill, both ways — phones were actually for… wait for it… making calls. And we had to remember numbers, because they didn’t have them stored with pictures and stuff!!!!

How did we survive?! The snow, yeah, sure, that’s easy. But this travesty… the horror!!!! And to have to answer without knowing WHO was calling… gasp….

Ok, ok, ok… maybe that’s a bit over-dramatic, but there’s a toddler in the house, so that’s the default setting around here. Still, I think you get the picture.
With our “smart phones” (are they REALLY, though?) they store all the contact info so we can literally just ask them to call whoever we want and — voila.
We think that’s new.
But honestly, thanks to a Guy who came down a couple thousand years ago because He loved us so much, He broke the mold and did it first.

Before Christ came, folks would go to the priests, bring offerings, tell them what they had done, and the priests would intercede on their behalf. There was a barrier between sinners and God.
Christ changed the game. He became the perfect sacrifice. No longer do we need an intermediary, because He is the path to the Father. Full stop.
(Ephesians 2 puts it plainly: through Him we have access in one Spirit to the Father.)
Reverends, priests, and pastors are still absolutely important as shepherds — guiding us, helping us, offering advice, comfort, and support. I look to my pastor for those things and I recommend you do too.
But the Holy Spirit? He visits me while I’m praying, when I’m in the Word, and — as you’ve seen throughout these devotionals — literally anytime during the day.
Psalm 139 says it best: there’s nowhere I can go from His Spirit. He’s already got my number.

Just a thought from a guy who’s got his friends marked as “favorites”… but still has a number from some girl named Jenny stuck in his head since the mid-80s (iykyk!).
