CT … He Can Always See

Bein’ a history buff means a few things.

First, my wife has the strongest eyeballs and the most patience south of the Mississippi (for putting up with my incessant need to watch “just one more” documentary on underwater basket-weaving of the 19th century).

Next, learning that the more things change, the more they stay the same — it’s amazing how many mistakes we as a people have repeated just a few decades apart.

And lastly… how awesome new inventions are, especially in the medical profession.

It’s hard to believe that just 150 years ago the finest doctors and surgeons of the day were still arguing against washing their hands before operations… yet 3,000 years ago people were already performing brain surgery. Crazy, right? But we live in such an enlightened age now.

Just this past week I had a follow-up from my little battle a few years back. They wanted to take a look at my insides, and thanks to modern medicine it didn’t involve any knives or poking around — just me drinking a nasty drink and holding my breath for a few minutes.

Some injuries are easy to see (like when my cat really didn’t want to be picked up). Others need a little help from technology to be spotted. We live in an age where physicians can determine when we need help and give us the right prescriptions to get us back on the path to recovery.

Hmmmm … You know… I once heard of a physician who wrote a prescription a couple thousand years ago that does the same thing for our soul.

Luke.

He reminded us that our Savior sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and keep us healthy — spiritually. Hanging out with like-minded people as often as we can to stay strong in the faith… reaching out to our Heavenly Father in prayer, the One who loves us and provides for us.

Just as we take daily care of our physical selves, it’s also important to remember our spiritual selves in the mix.

Just a thought from a guy who still believes an apple a day may keep the doctor away… but after reading the Good Book, I also know I probably shouldn’t bite into that apple. (iykyk 😄)

Bible Verses

Acts 2 / Luke 11:5-13

Questions

How do you look at your spiritual health? (no judgments here)

Any suggestions for the rest of us?
