We live in a modern Florida home… which means the front door only gets used when the car isn’t. (Does that make sense?) … No, we can’t park cars in the garage — that’s our storage area / workshop / laundry room / everything-else room. I wouldn’t be surprised if aliens popped out and yelled “Marco!” if we said “Polo.” But cars? Nope.
Why am I bringing this up? Because the garage is still the fastest way into the house from the driveway, so we keep the path clear. Every time I open that door I get to see the pile o’ possibilities sitting there — the leftover lumber from previous projects.
They say you can tell how good a carpenter is by how much (or how little) putty and sanding they have to do. I’ve got a whole shelf dedicated to the stuff … But I really enjoy it … It’s my way to unplug from the digital world and build something that lasts. When folks come into the house for the first time, they get a tour of the different pieces I’ve built over the years… and it always ends with my pride and joy — the clock my dad built for me. He was a way better carpenter than I am, and he really knew how to build things that last.
You know who else was a carpenter … And actually came here to give us a perfect example of how to connect with our Creator … Hmmmm … I’ll give you three guesses 😊 …
While Jesus led by perfect example, He also knew that we are all flawed and needed Him to make it to our Father … The most important piece of lumber ever carried, He carried. He then allowed Himself to be nailed to it so that we can one day live in glory with Him …
Now THATS building something that lasts …
