Symbols and Signs

I was rubbin’ my chin and thinkin’ thusly when i noticed my weddin’ ring and it got me thinkin … Ya know it’s out outward sign of heartbreak for all the female persuasion out there to let ya know that sorry girls, this one’s taken (team XX eye roll countdown in 3 – 2 – 1!) …

But, in all seriousness, no, it’s really a sign of commitment, a promise ring, if you will … A reminder to me and all that see it that i’m in it for the long haul, no matter what … And that got me thinkin’ about some other “signs and symbols” …

  • There’s a ceramic dog that may have cost 3 bucks if it cost a quarter when mom bought it.  Purchased the year Craig passed away and kept close to as a reminder of the son that had went before her to Heaven … When she moved in with us, it was in the first box that she opened and she gave it to me … “Craig’s dog” … It now has pride of place and sits sentinel watching me work …
  • A collection of fedoras (this ain’t even half of ‘em!) that i wear in these videos … I started wearing them after my son bought me one for fathers day … It was the first one i ever owned and i started wearing it because my 9 year old kid thought i’d look good in it ….
  • Then there’s the $20 WalMart necklace … When i got sick i couldn’t wear the wedding ring mentioned above because i’d lost too much weight, Toni picked up a chain that i could wear around my neck with my ring on it … The ring is back on my finger but the chain is now firmly a part of me and a reminder of what we went through …

None of these things are “valuable” in the sense of money, but, they’re priceless to us … They’re a constant reminder of something WAY bigger than the actual object … God wove and weaves signs and symbols throughout the Bible and throughout our lives to ensure that we truly see what’s important and keep our eyes on Him …

Just a thought from an incredibly lucky and blessed guy that sees the signs (oh how i want to sing that song 🙂 !!!
