One of my favorite memories of all time was a road trip my brother and i took when i was 17 and he was 15 … I’d already been accepted into the college i was going to attend and was going to spend spring break in Daytona Beach to check out the church and fill out the paperwork on campus of Embry Riddle as well as have a last break with my best friend before starting college … Yup … The 80’s were a different time when a responsible 17 year old could take his 15 year old brother on a road trip and that was considered “OK” … Ahhh … Good times 🙂 …
One thing that stood out to me on this trip was the drive down … Jim Croce’s song “Time in a Bottle” came on the mix tape (man, i’m old!) when it was my turn to play music (we had very different tastes) and Craig was playing “follow the dancing ball” with his hands while singing it … We laughed till our sides hurt … Not knowing that 6 months later Craig would roll over in that same car and … Well … I’ll see him again in heaven … One day … But, i was lucky enough to have put time in that bottle !!!!
This isn’t meant to be a “downer” post .. Just the opposite …
You see, a little over a dozen years later i had went over to Daytona Beach (man, a lot of things happen in Daytona!) to check on one of my best friend’s daughter after she had came home from a serious ear surgery … It was her first day back alone in her house, so, i wanted to bring her food, but, she felt good enough to go out, so went went out for chicken soup … I’ll spare you the details, but, Toni and i now celebrate “Chicken Soup Day” each year and she says it’s the day “i took her out to ask her out” …
The neat thing about time is we never know when “Quantity Time” and “Quality Time” are going to intermingle, but, the important thing is that we show up … Love one another like we love God … Live each day like it’s the gift it is (the “Present”!) and never assume that tomorrow’s a given …
Just a thought from an incredibly lucky guy that’s had exactly 20,484 sunrises at the time of this post, each one beautiful enough to take my breath away but there’s no way to count how many times my breath has been taken away by the moments in between each one 🙂 …

How do you view “Quality –vs- Quantity” time ???? Will you see it a bit different now ???
