6 — and a Half Dozen

During Toni’s devotional yesterday we learned a lot more about the mikvah and how it was performed … Wow … Just … Wow … And, at first glance, if you look at some of the “basic” steps of what is being done some can start to see similarities to some of the Christian baptisms, just as you can if you start looking hard at other traditions and rites that are performed across different churches and denominations … Does that make them any less meaningful ??? Absolutely NOT …

Let’s step outside of the faith community for a moment … Since i’m a math geek, let’s use math, cause that adds up (see what i did there!) … If you wanted to teach a child how to add 3 and 4 together how could you do it …

  • Use their fingers
  • Use a number line
  • Use blocks
  • Say there’s 4 Gospels and 3 in the Trinity (ok, that may be a bit advanced!)

All roads may lead to 7, just in different ways … And, this is just my opinion here, but, i’m pretty sure that when we’re baptizing someone into His Glory i’m pretty sure He is smiling down on us regardless of which route we took to get there.

When we were being “rededicated” in the River Jordan, seeing the tiles of Jesus’ Baptism in different languages really struck home for me …

And, Paul, even as the churches were just getting started, was already having to start reminding them to keep their eye on Christ and focus on Him instead of on nitpicking about things that can destroy a church from within …

Just a thought from a very grateful guy that was washed in the Glory and Cleansed by the Blood (ok, i’m singin’ now!)
