(forgive me !!!!) …. What’s the longest and shortest sentence in the English language … “I Do” 😀 …. I kid i kid i kid … Well, sort of … And, by that, i meant that it SHOULD mean a lifetime (so, longest, YES) but, it’s definitely not a “sentence” as much as it’s a promise and a bond … Union … A TEAM … It’s so cool 🙂 …
Almost 22 years ago i was lucky enough to have the most amazing person on the planet stand up in front of God and everyone and promise that no matter how frustrated i made her, no matter how much i messed things up, no matter how high her ocular muscles had to travel, she’d still choose me and stay to figure it out … THAT is commitment … (i think i missed my calling as a greeting card writer, don’t ya think!)
What got me thinkin’ ‘bout this today was when the kids had asked me to work on their “signing bench” (instead of a guest signing book at their wedding, they used a bench to have friends and family sign!) … I was looking at the signatures and it took me back 5 years ago to their promises and their wedding …
Saying “I Do” on that day truly is all about rainbows and unicorns, but, as all married couples find out once tux is returned and the dress is put away and life gets into routines, the “I Do” starts to turn into “We Are” … “we are” a team … “we are” on the same side … And when there’s disagreements (and there will be!) figure out why and instead of digging in look for why, and then how you can work together to make it work …
When God made us, he didn’t make us to be alone … He knew that we needed to have a partner, an equal … And Paul reminded us of how to Love that person and how Love really looks …
Just a thought from a guy that’s so very very blessed to have found his person and to see that his son has done the same 🙂 …
