My beloved Pappeye always used to tell us that going to Church on Sunday was kinda like the alternator on your car (he was an automotive teacher) … The alternator is the part in your car that charges up your car battery, so, he was saying we’d use our battery up all week and then come in and charge it up on Sunday … We could also “trickle charge” it throughout the week by reading our devotionals, daily prayer, visitation, etc etc, and, the healthier your spiritual life was, the healthier your Christian battery was … Pretty smart guy 🙂 …
Me, not sure if it’s that nowadays life’s more complicated or it’s just that I’m not only “A-D-D but also a carrier” … But, i sometimes think that there’s not just ONE spiritual battery, but, more like a fuel tank, a cell phone battery, and even a couple tires … And i wish there were gauges to go with all of them … Let me explain ……
The easy one, fuel tank that gets filled every Sunday … I see that gauge and can see when it starts to get low … Usually that happens if there’s 2 or 3 Sundays in a row that “life” gets in the way and we’ve had to miss services … (good thing there’s www.askapop.com to fill in the gap! 😀 ) …
Then there’s the cell phone … That’s our time with Him … That can’t get missed or skipped too often and requires daily attention 🙂 … Devotionals, bible reading, time in prayer, things like that … This centers me and makes sure that battery is full …
The next two i’m lumping together … Checking the Pressure !!!! …. Of my relationships … With my FAMILY and my FAITH … While the first two can go on and on with their tanks or cells dwindling down until the next charge … The pressure here, if it’s off even just a little will start to cause issues and get bumpy quick …. So, if somethings off here, maybe spend some of that time in prayer asking how to fix it 🙂 …
Just a thought from this generation’s “Pappeye” who, i’m sure, has totally overcomplicated the OG Pappeye’s motto … But, i am who i am ….
