Shhhh ….. can i let you in on a little secret …. In most churches when a Pastor is delivering a children’s message before giving the “big person’s sermon” they’re really wanting to make sure it aligns with what the “grown-ups” sermon’s gonna be to give the rest of the congregation a heads up on what’s coming, allowing them to prepare and open their hearts, souls, and minds for it even more so !!! (a little somethin’ I’ve learned from hangin’ out with a preacher or 3 over the decades 😛 ) …
Having said that, our new pastor takes a totally NEW and FRESH Spirit led direction to this by having the kids take turns taking home a “mystery box” that they can put a favorite “thing” in (as long as it has never been or is not currently alive!) and he will then, on the spot, make up a children’s message about it … It’s an awesome way to show the kids that THEY matter and are important to the worship environment and a wonderful reminder to us that He is in our presence guiding our shepherd in each week to quickly take whatever a 6month to 8 year old would put into a box (and, they’ve ranged from rolling pins to dinosaurs to trains in the time he’s been here!) and deliver an entertaining (remember, these are kids!) message that is on-point with the main sermon that will be delivered in a few minutes …
It ties in perfectly to this Observational Ministry and our motto of “seeing isn’t believeing, but, Believing is Seeing” … Our Loving and Living God is EVERYWHERE once you first let Him into your Heart … It’s impossible to not see Him in everything …
Now … With lil’bit having this box this week, if you’re in the area, maybe you can stop into Westminster by the Sea to check out What’s in the Box 🙂 ….
