We are celebrating another birthday today …. Someone’s approaching the big two oh oh oh !!!! (depending on who’s math you use, it’s 6 to 16 years from now) .. But, honestly, they don’t look or act a day older than … YESTERDAY … Lemme ‘splain 🙂 ….
Have you ever noticed that once a year there’s a lot of folks that seem to be “twinsies” around the church … All dressed up in red, and even the preachers and pastors of some churches get in on the act, pulling out robes or stoles that only get used once a year ??? Yup … It’s intentional, and, yes, we co-ordinate … It’s a huge birthday bash for the Christian Church … It happened just like Jesus promised when he Ascended into Heaven and promised to send His Holy Spirit down to be with us always …
As a youth educator i do go into the symbolism of the wearing of red for the kids each year (if you want an overview on it, DM me and i’ll be happy to share!) just as we do the same for other symbols throughout the year … Not because the symbols should be idolized or held up, but, because the symbols help us to remember WHY it’s important … Just putting on my red shirt this morning brought the entire chapter of Acts back into my heart and soul, dare i say, like a rush of wind 🙂 …
And, as for the the church looking like it’s as new as yesterday …. Christ Himself reminded us of what the church actually is … It’s not the facilities … It’s the people INSIDE … (the facilities FACILITATE the whole thing :-)) …. So, when my neighbor and i were chatting about Christ yesterday, yup, church … Just as important as what i’m getting ready to drive over and do today with a couple hundred other people at Westminster by the Sea … Both filled with the Spirit and both meant to lift Him up in Glory …
In closing … Let’s all sing a rounding rendition of Happy Birthday to our church 🙂 … Talk about letting freedom ring !!!! (and i’ll bet THAT birthday cake would be one for the ages !!!)
