I Can Name That Tune In ……

Ya know when i was a youngen and they were tryin to get us to remember all of the states in the country (no comments about pangea or the continential drift!) they knew that tryin’ to get 10 year olds to remember all 50 states (yes, i’m not that old!) would be tough, so, they taught us a song … Heck, i can still name them because of it … They also used a song to teach us about brushing our teeth … And, who wouldn’t want to be a certain person’s neighbor or find a big yellow bird on a sunny day ???

Music is awesome for entertainment … I think we can all agree on that, but, there’s a reason that so many education programs and resources have integrated into their core … When you’re singing or hearing something that’s being played to music, it helps you remember it better … Hmmmm pretty sure that’s why God had tugged on our buddy David and the other psalmists to write all of those Psalms 🙂 … many of the Psalms are meant to be sung (or chanted) and, even today there’s many of them that are still played celebrated as beautiful hymns in worship …

Music ministry is not only an important part of sharing the Gospel and witness but can also be a power motivator and spirit boost when you need it most … Please indulge me as i give a few examples …. (a) someone cuts you off in traffic …. I dare you to stay angry or try and talk with hand gestures while singing (either internally OR externally!) “jesus loves me” or “blessed be the ties that bind” !!!! (b) you’re anxious … I dare you to try and sing “in the garden” or “go tell it on the mountain” or “amazing grace”  (c) you can’t sleep … Try “silent night” or “it is well with my soul” …. (obviously, the hymns can change for the ones that work for you, but, what they do is CENTER YOU with OUR CREATOR … Like i tell my kids in Sunday School, they’re not magic pills or rainbow and unicorns, it doesn’t make the bad things disappear in the world, but, it allows us to get perspective back … It always works better with music, but, even with an ole coot singing off key, My Creator always knows to come and remind me that i’m not alone in that garden … Just sayin 🙂

Bible Verses
