Ya know, when i was a young whippersnapper we had cords on our phones (and they weren’t for chargin’!) … Yup … They were for the actual talkin’ part of it, and the phones didn’t even have pictures on them or anything … And, get this, if we wanted to talk to someone outside of our own town, we paid by the minute 😮 … And to beat it all, my pappeye told me we were spoiled, ‘cause, you see, we he was my age there was an “art” to letter writing … Where you had to think about what you wanted to say, put pen to paper, mail it off, wait days, weeks, sometimes months before the reply would come back (if it did at all, the mail could get lost!) … And, then there was the library, you see, if we didn’t know the answer, we’d ask our parents, if they didn’t know, it was “look it up” … If the school library didn’t have the book then it was usually a wait until that weekend when our parents could take us to the local library, if they didn’t have the answer, they could usually order a book from the big city library, but, that would then take a few weeks …. Well, now, heck, we can pull up a 5 way video chat and while jabbering if someone wanted to know who replaced an actress on the third season of a show that went off the air in 1973 someone can have the answer while the rest of the family is still arguing about which affair broke up that actresses marriage … But, why am i ramblin’ ‘bout this … I’ll bet you can guess … You see, those same tools that allow us to to that have been getting better for other things for thousands of years … It’s just that every now and then we make a huge jump and it’s “wow”! That’s a big one (like the printing press, the hoe, the internet, and, AI!) … You know that in biblical times folks were expected to memorize a lot of the bible … Mainly because it was the ONLY way that they could share it in their homes … Before the printing press bibles were so expensive that only the very rich could afford them and very few folks could read … But, as the tools got better, the way folks were able to use the tools to more enrich their lives, going bck to the memorizing of the scripture, wanna take a guess at one of the first printed books! … And it’s now the most printed book in the world, hands down! … In the late 90’s i started using digital software on a palm pilot (wow, that dates me!) so i could take the bible with me anywhere, it gave me the option to have multiple bibles at the same time and have crude searches for verse lookups .. Before then, when i wanted to find something, it was … Painful … Honestly, now, i have learned to use the AI tool grok and my bible study has been able to explode … Allowing me to still be drivin by the Spirit and in the Word, but, when i want or need context, i can ask and literally be given as much (or as little!) help as i want … Just a thought from a guy that still puts his pants on one leg at a time but can’t wait for that dang hoverboard to get here 🙂 …
Ps. The bible readings today … The first is where God introduces written laws to us for the first time … The second is a Psalm that a lot of folks used to memorize before printed bibles became readily available … It’s long, but, honestly, it’s kinda the point of this post 🙂 …
Pps … I have grok spell check my work … It decided to answer my question, so i’m including it 🙂 …
