I used to roll my eyes when “old people” would tell me “back in my day” … sooo … young people, get your ocular roller skates ready … “back in my day” … I used to absolutely look forward to sitting down in front of our humungus console tv (it was NINTEEN INCHES in the living room and tuning into Mr Rogers’ Neighborhood … he would take us on different adventures and was never afraid to make mistakes and had the most soothing voice in the world … best of all, he reminded me so much, both in actions AND in looks, of my Pappeye …. later on, I was able to find out SO MUCH more about this beloved man and the more I found out, the more I admired who he was, what he stood for, and why he did what he did for his entire life … you know he spent most of his adult life trying to stay at a weight of 143 … no, he didn’t have an eating disorder … he had a heart condition … that of LOVE … you see, 143 stood for the letters I LOVE YOU … wow … just … wow …. this Presbyterian Minister spent his entire showing one little one after another how to be a good neighbor, yes, love your neighbor …. so, yes, Mr. Rogers, I will be your neighbor, and I HAVE always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you 🙂 …
ps. the reason for this askapop today is because the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood page came across my facebook feed yesterday … where, yes, I’m now a happy member of that group, so, if I may be so bold, won’t you be by neighbor?
pps. The garden pic is Gethsemane … these two icons taught me that I was never in the Garden alone 🙂 …
