for anyone that’s heard me say the Lord’s Prayer in the last 15 years or so, you can attest that there’s two words that i emphasize each time i do it (and have since i made a connection while teaching a lesson about 15 years ago) … ‘bet you can guess the words from the title 😊 … you see when Jesus was teaching us what to say, just like everything else He does, it’s with purpose … He’s not just telling us to give thanks for our daily “meal” but, He’s reminding us of the Exodus and when God was teaching His people to TRUST and RELY on HIM, providing manna, but, also showing them that if they took too much and tried to hoard it (taking Him out of the picture) it wouldn’t work out for them but, on the day before the Sabbath, they SHOULD take double portions and it wouldn’t go bad … teaching them to TRUST that the Lord would PROVIDE their DAILY BREAD … in short, God was teaching a very scared people that He’s got their back and to rely on Him … fast forward to Jesus and the teaching of the prayer … hmmm … “give us THIS DAY our DAILY BREAD” … hmmm … He’s reminding us through this prayer that God’s got our back just the same today as He did back then … and, just as then, it’s not just with the manna, but, with EVERYTHING … God wants to be there for you and LOVES you … so much that HE has given you the free will to CHOOSE, so, you betcha that each and every time I say the Lord’s Prayer it’s an affirmation that i say loud and proud that i choose HIM to give me THIS DAY my daily bread … helping me with the worries and fears of today and knowing that tomorrow my God will be there then too … now you know my secret too I hope that maybe a few of you may make THIS DAY a little louder in that prayer as well … just a thought on, well, THIS DAY 😊 ….
