alrightyroo … we were in a pickle the other day … you see, one of our tires had decided to get into a relationship with a screw … now, normally i’m not one to stand in the way of a budding romance, but, in this case i must put my foot down as i feel that it’s not a sustainable relationship and the screw is really letting the tire down constantly … now, normally we would take our car in to be serviced, but, the two places we used to trust to do this, well, there’s a word in that last sentence that kinda gives away why that’s really not an option so “mr goodwrench” here decides it’s time to tackle a new do-it-yourself job 😊 … i’m sure a lot of you mechanics out there are saying “hey, that’s not that tough” but, for someone that’s never done it, it’s daunting … but, after getting my degree from youtube university and popping down to the hardware store for the proper equipment last night i was ready tackle it after grocery shopping today … that’s when my father, who’d passed away 15 years ago was able to give me some encouragement from above in the form of some italian ice … you see, a little over 35 years ago my dad received a kidney transplant and i will never forget sitting at his kitchen table with him, my step-mom, and a mountain of pills that would literally choke a horse while they were going over all of the “do-s and don’ts” of what he was allowed to eat, what he could drink, when he had to take his pills, etc etc etc” … now, mind you, this was long before ipads so my step-mom had all of this charted out and was on top of EVERYTHING to the minute, and, about that time, they said it was time for pills and dad grabbed a handful along with a tub of italian ice and started downing them … afterwards i asked him about the italian ice and he informed me that it helped with the awful taste of the pills … now, you’re probably wondering HOW this relates to tires … you see, my dad was always one of the smartest guys i knew … not because he knew everything but because he taught me that it was OK to ASK when you don’t … he taught me that it’s important to pay attention when doing things the first time and everytime … skills i still use to this day and try to pass along … he taught me to never mock someone for asking any question because EVERYONE has a do something for the FIRST time … so, at a little over a half century old, i am grateful to say that my daddy is still teaching this old dog new tricks …
