Perspective and Open Doors

ok … way back in my day (when is it “officially appropriate” to be allowed to start saying that, i feel once you’re a grandparent, it’s ok, so, i’m saying it, but, inquiring minds want to know :-P) … anyhoo, back in my day, when we walked 7 miles up hill in the snow (both ways mind you!) to school, we used to have a 9 week rotational model for one of our classes that basically taught us all of the basics about being an adult … it happened in the 7th-10th grades … it consisted of a sewing class, a cooking class, a shop class, and a civics/business class … now why, you may be asking, am i rambling on about this 4 decades on ??? well, actually, i learned a LOT in those classes that stuck with me thru life (probably a LOT more than in some of the “core” ones, if i’m honest,) but, when i was walkin thru my garage today i noticed a chop saw that took me back to my 14 year old self and all of a sudden i remembered just how in awe i was the first time i saw a big power saw in Mr. Underwood’s woodworking shop … he told us of all of the dangers of the big tools and promised us if we were excellent students and paid attention in his class, he’d teach us how to use some of them so i paid a LOT more attention in that class than an elective usually warranted, but, i soon graduated from the coping saw up thru the ranks to where my 9th grade year i actually used my one and only elective to be his shop assistant so i could learn more about the power tools and how to not only use them but to teach others as well … What started off as something i was, well, terrified and in awe of became something that while i was still in awe of was something that i was comfortable with as long as i knew my place … there’s a couple reminders in our house on a daily basis of this very thing for me as i prepare to enter … the door we replaced was something that scared the daylights out of me when we took the old frame out, but, through prayer and a LOT of preparation, we were able to get the new one hung and surprise Toni that day, and the other is the cross that stands proudly, literally, as the first part of our house … reminding me and all who enter who truly is master of this house … it puts things into perspective because as for me and my house, we will follow the Lord (hey, that sounds catchy 😊) … sometimes we’ll get caught up in the weeds or the small stuff of daily life but if we remember who’s REALLY in charge (hint, it ain’t us and He’s seen everything, know’s everything, and, if we simply turn it over to Him, He will help us with our troubles) then just like that door, yes, we need to prepare for things but, as long as PRAYER is part of our preparation and we are willing to help ourselves as well, He can open any door for us !!!! (hey see what i did there!!!!)
