Hairily Hairily I Tell Thee

for those that know me, didja ever think i’d do an askapop on hairstyles or haircare … be honest 😛 …. for those that don’t know what i’m referrin’ to, for over 3 decades yours truly has forgone the ritual of a professional haircut in lieu of an attachment hooked up to the shopvac in the garage save 1 time when i promised the missus that i’d get a “real hair cut” … spoiler alert, “ole besse” was fired up 3 weeks later for a trim … not that i have anything against the profession, but, honestly, i can’t see spending money on something i can’t recreate at home anyway, so, i’m happy in my on skin, and, thanks to mail pattern baldness, there’s more of that every day … but, that’s not what this is about … you see, today when i was trimming up my hair i started thinking about it like a metaphor of my faith journey … thinking about the foundation that was started when i was a very young boy, long before i could understand a lot of the words in the Bible, my mom and dad started teaching me the foundation of right and wrong and who God was and what a friend i had in Jesus … (think of this as the first lesson in “lather, rinse, repeat”) … later on my beloved Pappeye gave me some advice as i did start learning the Bible stories … he challenged me the first time i started telling him a story back from rote and said in the loving way that only he could … “honey, i’m so proud of you for remembering that, but, if you could use your OWN words and tell it to me, then, i’ll know that you REALLY know it and i’ll be even MORE proud of you” … think of that as the first use of “conditioner” … throughout my life more lessons in faith have made the roots take a firmer grip so when things in life try and cut them off (like a hair cut will trip the tips) it does only that, scratch at the surface, never ever getting to the roots of my faith … pretty heavy for a haircut on a nearly bald guy that still has deep enough roots to make it through several lifetimes, huh 😊 … just a thought …

Bible Verse
