i don’t know if y’all ever had any house like this, but, growing up, whenever we visited Grannie Mama’s, there was room that she had that smelled different … kinda musty … we were really never allowed in there so of course i would go … it was full of things that we weren’t allowed to touch or “even look at young man” …. and the couch actually had plastic on it !!! … it was her “fancy living room” … at least that’s what Craig and i called it … we figured it was for the Pope or the President (at least that’s what mom said, but, dad didn’t think that was too funny, and, looking back, i think i know why) … but, now, looking back, i do understand what that room was and, while we definitely don’t have one of those rooms in our house, in the 60’s and 70’s, they were a thing … now, you’re probably asking where in the heck is this goin’??? 😊 … you see, pulling out lil’bit’s wagon today for a “day – off pappeye – lil’bit” excursion to SeaWorld i happened to notice that it’s far from the “like brand new” status it was just months ago when purchased it for same said outings … now, i’m pretty sure Grannie Mama would have flipped her lid if she’d see it, but, i see each and every mark, scuff, and stain as one of our many adventures we’ve taken around the neighborhood, park, and of course to SeaWorld, heck, i can actually even picture a few of the them like a memory reel !!! i then took a look at the Bible i was given when i graduated high school … this was/is a very special gift that was given to me by my church family way back, heck, almost 40 years ago, but, if it was still pristine and hermetically sealed, i’m not sure who would be offended more, brother Rick, Pastor William, or my beloved Pappeye, because all three of them told me the same thing when giving it to me … i SHOULD “use it up” … what i’m getting at here is that while something may look beautiful while it’s new and shiny, when it’s meant to be used, what makes it even more beautiful is seeing it get beat up, worn, and used up over the years … so, the next time you see an old couch or pan or definitely Bible instead of thinking about how old it is, think about remembering all of the memories that went into making it so beat up, worn, and used 😊 … just sayin’ ….
