Music to Our (His) Ears

yesterday i was drivin’ to pick up my sweetie when on the radio a song came on that might have well have turned the car into a DeLorean and made it go 88 mph all the way back to a 1977 at the fake sandy bottom of rippling waters pool in good ole WV … it was so real i could even smell the hot dog i used to love eating while hating to wait 30 minutes afterward so i “wouldn’t get cramps” … it got me thinking about just how much music plays a part in our memories and can bring us back to different times and places … which, i’m guessing, is why God made sure that He had one of the most famous musicians of all times take the time to write a lot of the prayers down so we’d have them … we call them Psalms and while we read them today, a lot of them were sung way back in the day (i’ll stop and let you picture your preacher singing a few bars of your favorite right about now!) … anyhoo … the reason for the ssa today is to take a virtual walk down memory lane on just how important music is on our lives … growing up we celebrate most of the milestones with it … i know that we have holiday themed music, camping music, and, let’s face it, you’re not a teenager unless you love music that your parents hate, but, then we get into some other stuff about it, too … i know that i used to spend a lot of time coming up with songs for the youth trips to make sure that the kids would have “ear worms” that they’d bring back home … and, believe it or not, it wasn’t (just) to annoy their parents … it was to make sure to have another “fun” way to keep the trip memorable …. having “go – to” songs that you can sing and remember at times when you’re down is an awesome way to lift your spirits, whether they’re hymns, love songs, goofy songs, or just made up songs … it’s a way to lift your spirits, and, as long as it’s not blaspheming Him, i’m pretty sure that He would be happy with that … (hey, i think they wrote a song about that too and it happened to be one of the youth trip songs!) … (a quick note about the second Bible verse, if you’re wondering why it’s only one verse … my favorite hymn is “In the Garden” and the Bible verse is the verse that is the one that i feel speaks to me on it 😊 ) … now, i’m gonna go sing a song and have a great day, you do the same !!!

Bible Verses

Psalm 100 / Isaiah 41:10
