We Put One Foot In Front Of The OOOOTTTTHHHHEEEEERRRRR

Today’s meanderings come about thanks to a birthday that happened yesterday. One of my best friends’ “lil’bits” of his own just passed the one-third-of-a-century mark. Wow. I remember meetin’ that little fella zoomin’ around their apartment when he was 5 and had more energy than all three of the rest of us. Now he’s got a little less of the zoomies, and I love him like my own.

Yesterday’s birthday, along with hangin’ out with my own lil’bit’s lil’bit and my ole knees and thumbs, made me realize just how much things stay the same and how much they change.

When I was lil’bit’s age, my hopes and dreams were way different than they were when I was a teen. My mom and dad guided me and kept me safe. As a teen my dreams changed. We had some serious things happen. Mom and dad were still there, my grandparents joined in to help, and Christ came into the picture.

Throughout my life, every time a door closed another would open or a window would crack. There’s a million songs that talk about broken roads or footsteps and the like. I think that’s for a reason.

Ecclesiastes says there’s a season for everything. Paul says in his letter to Corinth that when he was a child he spoke like a child and thought like a child, and when he became a man he put those things away. Different stages. Same walk.

I’d recently talked about God protecting fools and children. I stand by it. Or, to borrow from one of the songs in Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town… “We put one foot in front of the other.”

Just a thought from a guy that keeps gettin’ one year older on paper but his heart keeps gettin’ one year fuller thanks to his Savior.

Bible Verses

Ecclesiastes 3 / 1 Corinthians 13:11-13
