Teams and Teamwork … He’s Involved In Everything We Do

As y’all know, I was SOOOO lucky to have two awesome grandfathers that taught me more than any grandson had the right to learn. One of the main reasons I grabbed this domain (askapop.com). They both had some humdinger of sayings. Pappeye’s have shown up here before. Papa’s wouldn’t fit a devotional, but they were quotable.

One of Pappeye’s—our family motto and this ministry’s cornerstone—is “It’s not what we gain but what we give that measures the worth of the life we live.” Another is “God protects fools and little children.” I can attest to that. I live it every day and slipped from one category into the other early, just in reverse order.

What some call “luck” and others call “coincidence” happens too often to ignore. I’ve heard it called the “Guardian Angel.” Closer, but I’ve settled on “I know a Guy.” When you’re in the middle of it, you don’t always see it.

Crazy hours at a Radio Shack in college, choosing the new-fangled internet thing over the better-paying radio sales. An evening helping a buddy get a dialer working on Windows 95—that one led to meeting my future father-in-law.

A decade later I was working remotely, learning the tools that still shape the job I do with the team today. Along the way we found a church home and a group of educators and leaders who helped us grow into a ministry. Something my Pappeye started in a small church in Charleston, WV now reaches folks in 114 countries.

None of this is because of a fuzzy little goofy guy in Florida. Jeremiah said He knew us before we walked, while we were still in the womb. Matthew reminds us no one is not worth going after when we carry His message. And a mistake—Lord knows I’ve made plenty—doesn’t mean we write someone off. We forgive and leave the judging to Him.

Just a thought from a guy who went from the little child to the fool and still knows who his Lord is.

Have you ever had a time in your life when, let’s face it, you can just admit “I know a Guy” ???
