Party Time … Friendship Fellowship and Kinship Oh My!

Startin’ this one with a disclaimer alert… The pics you see during this post are NOT from the PARTAY described therein. Someone that looked a whole lot like me (poor fella) was way too busy flappin’ his gums and workin’ his tongue to stop and click click away. But, then again, it’s kinda the point of this post.

Yesterday my beloved and I trekked dozens if not hundreds of… well, steps, to celebrate one of our beloved neighbors’ birthday parties. He was renewing his 39th birthday again and had friends and family down from over the rivers and through the woods. And even by sea.

Arriving ahead of the birthday boy (it was a surprise party) we were met by some familiar faces (other neighbors and his family that lived around) and by many others. Over the next couple of hours, at least 8 decades (maybe 9?) of folks mingled and, dare I say, TALKED and SHARED about life and choices. Folks from up and down and around the map, not just our state.

Seeing a young child show an app on his phone to one of our neighbors he’d just met and talk about it because it was the same app that we use with Lil’Bit—and his face lit up—was… well… a gift I received that day even though my renewal of the #39 doesn’t happen for several months.

When traveling the Holy Land it really put into perspective just how important it was for families and communities to sit down and talk, teach, listen, answer, and explain. They didn’t have the internet (duh) back then. Heck, they didn’t even have books in the house, so it was left up to their memory and then a trip to the synagogue when they needed help. It took a village.

Just a thought from a guy that remembered yesterday just how nice it is to still have that village around. Thanks Donna and Tony for allowing us to be a part of your very special day. Happy 39th, Tony!
