I’ve heard that the multitude of all wisdom comes between the ages of 4 and 14. At 4 you know every question. At 14 you know every answer. And I think we get dumber each year after that. At least accordin’ to some folks.
Time is a fickle fellow, ain’t it. Yesterday I was reminded of it while out walkin’ Lil’Bit. It’d been rainin’, and the swell was up high enough that we had a makeshift creek in the yard, so what the heck. Almost like 20 years had not even passed. Watchin’ him play out there in the water was just like his daddy had done. Ahh. Good times.

The math geek in me knows that each and every second takes the same amount to tick, unless we get really really fast or go really really close to a black hole. But sometimes, like yesterday, 20 years seems like no time. And like yesterday, when I was lookin’ at thousands of lines of doo-dads on the screen, hours felt like eons. So, Mr. SmartyPants Einstein, tell me how that works.

I’d heard someone explain once that enjoyin’ life isn’t about how many breaths you take, but how many times someone takes your breath away. Hmmmm. In that case, thanks to the folks I cherish and my Lord and Savior, that’s just about right.

The psalm says a thousand years in His sight are like a day. He was the dwelling place before the mountains. John says the Word was already there, in the beginning. Then He chose to walk with us a little over 30 years and show us what love looks like in the flesh, and the Spirit stayed on after. The clock is His. The minute and the forever.

Just a guy takin’ 3 minutes or so of time now, thinkin’ about a hymn that says when we’ve been doin’ it for ten thousand years, we’ll have no less days than when we’d first begun.
