There’s an idiom (that’s with an M on the end) that don’t play like it used to: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Mainly ’cause a lot of folks — yours truly included — read or listen from a phone or a tablet. Fleming or Paul. Butcher or Luke. They all look like the case I bought for my Moto. Hello, Moto.
Aesthetics may have left the building. The meaning didn’t. We still look at a person or a thing and put it in a box. Banker in a suit. (For you young’uns: a banker works at a bank. A bank holds money. Money is that stuff attached to the ATM card.)
What got me thinkin’ this mornin’ was, well, my belly. Big surprise.
When we make biscuits around this house, half of ’em get a surprise inside. Some of us want more than the biscuit. Some just want the buttery goodness.

As I was preppin’ — let’s face it, there ain’t much makin’ these things — it got me thinkin’ about a spiritual life. John pointing at his cousin — before the water ever made him “the Baptizer.” The hill where Christ showed some of His closest friends His inner Light.

The can looks like our blank slate. No idea if it’s gonna be a pepperoni roll, a pig in a blanket, a plain buttery biscuit, or sausage and gravy. The oven doesn’t invent the layers. It shows ’em. The Spirit uses a willing soul the same way — more inside, more outside, just the oven. Different trays. Same glory.

Just a thought from a guy that started as a blank slate at 13 and is STILL letting Him decide where I should go next … Probably with one of those biscuits in my hand !!!!
