Y’know… way back in the stone age, when we played football alongside the dinosaurs — long before this thing called electrolytes was invented in a foreign land called Florida — we had the height of hydration technology. An old farm watering gadget hung on the chain-link and hooked to the hose. Coach turned it on, a dozen of us got a tepid stream, and voila: nobody died, nobody got sick, nobody got electrolyted. Perfect.

Now, by the back door, every time we leave I feel like yellin’ “Attica!” — tin cans scrapin’ the bars. Steel bottles, hermetically washed, standin’ at attention, waitin’ on filtered water for another day in the Florida jungle.

Huh.
I know we know more. (See what I did there.) Maybe a line got crossed. Then again… what’s safety worth, knowin’ what we know now?
Toni jokes about how many bottles I take. She’s not wrong. Sometimes I get thirsty. Sometimes somebody else does. Sometimes you just never know. And that’s only the water we drink.
There’s another kind. Like He said — I’m full of it. (Hey. Watch it now.)

Since I was 13 and took Christ in, I wasn’t the same kid. Those stone jars at the wedding couldn’t ever go back to what they were before once He’d filled them. The woman at the well didn’t haul that jug home the same way either. Living Water changes you, permanent … Leaves the mark. With Him I already know I’m accepted. I try each day to make Him “well pleased” — not because it’s required, but because the voice at the river already said it, and He deserves it.
Just a thought from a guy with too many water bottles and just the right amount of Living Water.
