The Best Part of Wakin Up Is … SPIRIT in My Cup

The Spirit hit me today whilst makin’ my bean juice at our counter. (I think the correct terminology now is Café Americano at the Coffee Station.) But what do I know? I’m just lucky enough to get the hot black stuff in a container that doesn’t burn my hands.

I kid. Different strokes for different folks. I’ve found mixin’ instant and espresso gets it done — ice cube or two if I can’t wait for the first gulp. Most look at me like I’ve got two heads. (What’s new.) The kids like their auto-drip with flavorin’s. Mom used enough sugar to keep the dentist on speed dial. Nanny put sweetened condensed milk in hers. Different strokes.

Why all the bean-countin’? Years ago there was an ad — a good’un — about the best part of wakin’ up, and it involved drinkin’ coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I drank that coffee. Maybe because of that ad. But after over 20,500 wakin’-ups, lemme let you in on a secret: there’s no coffee in the world that cracks the top ten reasons to get up. Most of those have to do with the folks still sleepin’ under this roof.

The number-one reason is Someone who walked this earth about three decades and then laid His life down — for me, you, all of us. He sent His Spirit back with a pile of different gifts, free of charge, so we can make each day on this big blue rock a little better.

Just a thought from a guy that takes his java warm but his Spirit on fire.
