Ya know, one subject I did exceptionally poor in during my educational career was “penmanship.” Anyone that’s seen these paws put anything to paper can agree that me and anything with lead or ink comin’ out the business end don’t seem to get along.
Luckily, since college I’ve had computers (a VIC-20 was my first, then a PCjr—don’t laugh) so my professors didn’t have to decipher the scribbles. Heck, a lot of times I couldn’t either. Ahhhh… good times.
Way back in the olden olden times—yes, even before me and the dinosaurs—folks didn’t have computers or typewriters. They wrote it all by hand. It was an art form. Took years. A single scroll of the Bible could be worth as much as a house, treasured in a synagogue (and later, a church). Printin’ anything took time, love, and care.

Then the tools got faster and cheaper. All the way to this morning, when my computer literally told me—before I printed my beloved’s job—“Hey, you need to order some ink ’cause your wife’s gonna be mad if you don’t.” I may be paraphrasin’.

That got me thinkin’. We use the printer till it’s low. It tells us. We reach out and buy a refill.
Our faith tank don’t work like that.

Christ already paid the price, in full. He’s watchin’ the tank the whole time. Nicodemus came at night lookin’ for answers, and Jesus didn’t hand him a cartridge. He talked about bein’ born of the Spirit. Psalm 63 is the thirsty side of that same truth: my soul thirsts for You.
No extra invoice. No 6-to-10-hour delivery. He comes to us. We still have to want the fill.
Just a thought from a guy that tries to keep his faith tank full and his printer cartridges at least half full.
