Support Comes in Many Ways … He’s Got Us Covered

When I say strong … support … what comes to mind ??? Steel? Concrete? Superman?

Now the other kind. Mom? Dad? Preacher? Teacher?

How well does a concrete belt work? How about hugging a steel girder? How about asking your mom to hold up a building, or your preacher to be the foundation for a road?

Doesn’t work that way. Support comes in more than one strength.

Concrete and steel have their place. That same rigidity is the opposite of what a crying child needs — a shoulder that gives. And that support is just as important. Sometimes more.

It also changes. The same hands that changed your diapers showed you how to use a fork, then a book, then a steering wheel, then stood there while you started a family of your own. One day those same hands may look for yours, because the body they belong to isn’t as strong as it was.

During our life we’ll meet a lot of kinds of support. There is one that doesn’t age out. Him. That still small voice. People He puts in the path — firm when we need a wall, soft when the tears come.

He named Simon Peter — the Rock — and started something we still lean on.

Just some thoughts from a guy that’s been blessed with the best supporting cast on the planet. Now … can anyone tell me WHY Toni won’t let me wear the belt AND the suspenders with the flip-flops???

Bible Verses
