Gonna take a poll. Raise your hand if you ever had a mom (or a mom-type). Keep ’em up if you had a dad (or a dad-type). Keep ’em up if you are one. Keep ’em up if you even know one. Alright, everybody can put ’em down. No, I’m not omniscient … but I do know a Guy.

When you were a young’un, did they ever ASK you to clean your room? After the kerfluffle and the hem-hawin’, you did it, and they were happy, right?
Now … did you ever CHOOSE to do it on your own? How much happier were they then?
Did their love for you STOP if the room stayed a wreck? Let’s face it, there may have been real-life consequences. (Heck, I STILL think the dog ate that assignment, Ms. Willis.) But as far as my mom and dad’s love for me? Nope. That never changed.

Hmmmm. Who else do we call a version of “Dad” … or, better yet, “Our Father”?
His love for us has never died, and never will. He sent His Son to show us the Way to live and the Way home.
I used to think following Him meant giving up on the “fun” things in life. Then I realized choosing Him meant choosing to REALLY live.

At 13 I started “cleaning my room,” so to speak, because reading the Bible I thought He was telling me I should. By 26 I had started to realize that cleaning my room because it made Him happy made all the difference.

Just a thought from a guy that’s happily living the way He wants me to live. And that’s my choice.
