Ok… for those that say I don’t only HAVE A.D.D. but I’m a carrier, this may be your best proof yet. What do my grandparents, a pizza with peppers, a cistern, pancakes, Joseph in the pokey, Pharaohs not sleepin’ well, and hangry Egyptians all have in common? Gimme 3 minutes and see if it makes sense. Well, as much as any of my ramblings do.

As some of y’all know, I wake up long before the chickens even think about turnin’ over, so my eatin’ times are a bit different than most. 9:30 a.m. pizza for me is my… well… lunch. And while some of you may be lookin’ at that with a “huh, look at those peppers!” I got to thinkin’ about just how many times our family enjoys “breakfast for dinner.” Pancakes at 8? Yum.

Now, that’s ok, but I guess you can’t switch it around unless it’s cold, and then only certain things. Who makes these rules, anyway!!!

Not sure, but that led me to thinkin’ about Nanny and Pappeye… and how many times, especially at dinner, they’d talk about their plans to travel when they retired. Pappeye had it all worked out. They were saving to buy an RV and they were going to see America. So excited. Then Nanny got sick. She had to retire early, and he followed suit.

They moved to Florida shortly after. I was already living here and was lucky enough to spend a LOT more time with them. Pappeye never mentioned the RV and always talked about how much he loved taking care of his “girl.” And when he joined the Church of New Jerusalem, she joined him two days later.

For years I honestly struggled with this, sad about what they gave up, until the love of a great woman and starting my family after that made me realize it wasn’t giving anything up at all. Reading Joseph’s story to my son (before taking him to his first live play) brought a whole new meaning to “God’s time” and how we can look at where we are and either choose to wallow in it or thrive in it.

Thanks to Joseph’s faith, the Egyptians not only made it through years of drought, his family was reunited.

Thanks to Pappeye’s faith, his girl spent the last years of her life knowing she was loved and cared for.

Just a thought from a guy that is always trying to do his Pappeye proud anytime of day.
