For those of you that know me, you know a couple things. My mom and my “big little bro” hold VERY special places in my heart, and there will be much rejoicing the day I see them in the New Jerusalem.
I’m saying that because of this next part. Mom always told me I was VERY LUCKY to be born first … ’cause without a doubt my little brother was LAST.

Think Butch and Sundance, Road Runner and Coyote, Bugs and Daffy, Tom and Jerry, Abbott and Costello. You get the picture. The two of us were … well, I’m pretty sure a third kid would have caused new “colorful adjectives” in the English language that would have made Popes rise from the dead just to blush again.
So, no middle children in our house.

That didn’t stop Mom from mentioning, over and over, that she was a middle child. A lot. She used to joke that she felt kinda like the “Wednesday” of the family. (It was always a joke, because everyone knew “Punky” was really Daddy’s girl.) And it was always a good laugh.
Some folks look at Wednesdays, or the middle, as the longest day … the endless day. I guess it’s all perspective. Looking back, we can see how far we’ve come. Looking ahead, each step now takes us one step closer to the finish line.
And right there in the middle, He meets us.

For anyone who wants to read the Bible cover to cover, Psalm 118 lands pretty much in the center. Guess what’s there? God, always with us, protecting us. Hmmm. Kinda sums up the Book. Almost like it was meant to be there.

Just a thought from a very lucky guy who knows he’s in the middle of three VERY important folks that John reminded us were there in the beginning … and will always be, loving all of us.
Wow. Just … wow.
