Yup We Gathered At The River

One of my most favoritests parts of goin’ on vacation is seeing new things and meeting new people (shocker, i’m a talker!) … Add to that our Niece being a pastor at a church, well, that’s a MUST DO stop on the RiceMobile2026VacationORama …

Then she went and did something that i hadn’t planned … This little so-and-so went and updated something that Pappeye had taught me 40 years ago … The NERVE of her !!! 🙂 ….

Ya see … Back when i was a young whippersnapper (a bit older than the pic here!) i’d asked Pappeye why we had to keep goin’ back to church once we learned about Jesus and got saved … I figured there were lots better ways to spend my Sundays … He smiled in that way he always did and told me “Honey, church is like an alternator in your car … It charges your Christian batteries … You can run without it for awhile, but, you need to come get your batteries charged up to keep them healthy” …

As an elder and a Christian Educator i can now give a much different answer, but, at the heart, his answer of being around like minded and souled folks on a regular basis DOES help keep us rooted and accountable, so, while there’s MORE to it than that, his explanation has always been good a good one for me …

Till Pastor Hanna came along, that is 🙂

She reminded us of how many different milestones have happened at or around the church or with the folks connected with the church over the years … How many hands have been held, hugs given out, tears have been shed (or wiped away) … These things simply CANT be done in online or “personal space” … In the Bible reading she used with her sermon (Hebrews) it kept referring to US … Knowing that connecting with Christ is supposed to be a communal event …

So, i guess this old dog has learned something new today … While i will still get my batteries charged up, i now know why … And hope that while others are charging mine, i may, in some small way, be charging others as well, because that’s what God wants us to do … Together ….
