God protects Fools and Little Children … I went from One to the Other without missin’ a beat !!! … Just maybe not in that order 🙂 … I was also blessed to have been brought on to this big blue marble just at a turning point in, well … Pretty much everything…
The town i remember growing up in had around 4,000 people and it seemed that everyone knew everyone’s name and business and it was an awesome town … We had 1 theater, on main street, of course, and it had 1 movie playing twice a night and an additional couple shows on the weekend … There were a couple fancy diners (we couldn’t afford) and i do remember a Pizza Hut moving in, but, “fast food” meant your mom making peanut butter and jelly on the quick OR heading to the truck stop on one end of town or the bowling alley on the other …
Ahhh…. I remember those fries … And we learned to play pool and bowl when the league would allow … It was family entertainment … Something we did that ALL of us could do. Those memories stuck in my head … Enough so that when my son was old enough we went to the summer program here … Not nearly enough, but, occasionally …
Which leads me to last night … Lil’bit is FASCINATED with balls … Big balls, small balls, squishy balls, and, as we found out last night … Bowling Balls !!!! He squealed as we entered and started dancing a jig once the bowling shoes were on his feet … He had an absolute BLAST situating the balls in the carrier and ended up getting two strikes in a row and we built a memory and hopefully a foundation for a love of a game that will want him to return again and again …
History is important … And the only way our kids are going to learn it is through us … And it can’t just be through us droning on and on and on … Let’s try and make history fun … Whether it’s through walks around our churches to explain why we’re going there or showing them examples about why our faith is important or modeling how a good relationship works in a family dynamic, they’re watching … Heck, simply showing that you can “spare” the time to take time bowling …
Just a thought from an incredibly lucky guy that just got to bowl with his grandson for the first time 🙂 ….
