Startin off with a question here … How many of y’all think that thrift shops are ONLY for folks that can’t afford to go to “normal” stores ??? (no wrong answers here) … I’ll be honest, before beginning to work with our outreach folks at church, i know i did. But, come to find out, IF only those folks were involved then the whole system would collapse pretty quick 🙁 … Moreover, “normal” is a setting on a dryer and that’s about the only place that word should ever be used !!!!
You see, “Found and Cherished” items have been previously loved by people in one home and now get to find new homes and new families to do the same all over again … With the beauty being that in the process the second family may not have the same resources as the first but that doesn’t mean they’re gonna love it any less … And, here’s another secret, since the first family showed the love and caring to donate the item to begin with, the Thrift store can actual help someone in ELSE by paying them to stock and sell them item as well … Zacchaeus at the end instead of the beginning where he’s spreadin the wealth!!!!
Today while Toni and i were making a donation run to a favorite local drop off zone, “Found and Cherished”, we did as we always do and peruse the store. Looking for things that others have decided to share, and that’s when the Spirit hit me with this post … Seeing the picture frames i could see all of the future families that can be blessed by the love and generosity of folks that were willing to take the time and effort to bring those items in rather than drop them into the bin when they weren’t needed anymore …
Whether you’re trying to clear out a closet or looking for a new picture frame, please think about your local charity Thrift stores when considering where to visit … It’s not being stingy with money, it’s taking what you have and multiplying it to help others ….
