Bootin’ up my work computer got me thinkin today about just how many languages we deal with on a daily basis … Even in a house that’s “supposedly” a unilingual household !!!! … Let’s see, we speak english, some of our computers speak windows and linux, and let’s not forget our tablets and phones and watches and tv’s and washers and and and and and … Oh my … And that’s just before we get out the door … Good thing we’ve got ways to cross these gaps !!!!
In years past, language barriers were just that … Barriers … Heck, i remember even 22 years ago how much of a barrier it was when Toni and I were on a vacation and we had a minor emergency (if ya know ya know!) and i was lost in Venetian hospital at 5am and kept seeing signs for “Uscita” … This was 10 years before the iPhone and 15 years before handheld translators, so, it may have well have been written in ancient Greek …
On the other side of barriers, one of our favorite games in college was “Axis and Allies” … “replaying” WW2 starting from the spring of 1942 … But, the twist was, since we all spoke the same language AND we all knew ahead of time that we were going to play, each time we played we would choose to make secret alliances, making WW2 into something different and unique each time….
God had confused our languages years ago at babel, and, according to many that know me, i continue to confuse it today just by rambling … But He started reversing that confusion day of Pentecost with the Holy Spirit … That day His disciples helped lead folks to Him … And, through the centuries since then, there’s been inspired new technologies to allow more and more folks to be able to get to Him using the hands and feet of His faithful servants.
Samuel’s tomb is a perfect example of what CAN be done when we choose to look for things that unite us instead of the things that divide us … Where the folks choose to work together to lift one another up … Just a thought from a guy that may do windows but still likes a mint while polishing his chrome :-P.
(ps … The abstract painting included is called “Buddy” … It’s one that my Nanny made years ago .. Personally, think that art is a language all to itself !!!!)
