I was lacing up my new shoes today (for some reason my beloved started sending me memes of clowns after i ordered them, i’m not sure why 😀 ) the Spirit hit me with today’s devotion … So take a walk with me in my new red kicks as i take y’all on a trip down memory lane …
- As the oldest grandson it was my honor and privilege to get to help my Papa with his bread route during the summers and winters when i got old enough … One of the first things he taught me was “Facing Bread” … He’d tell me that it showed folks that you cared about what you did … And, while we were doing it, he always made sure to face all of his competitors bread while he was there …..
- Years later, a trusted mentor and colleague, Jaime Torrents, taught something to me that i still keep with me to this day … He told me that while the data moving through the cables in a rack took the same amount of time if they were managed properly –vs- if they were just put in “willy nilly”. The difference is good cable management could could mean seconds –vs- hours in troubleshooting ….
- In the kitchen my mom would tell me me when you’re making complex recipes (like lasagna!) it’s really important to follow a recipe and use a checklist. You don’t want to spend a lot of time, effort, and money only to see the tub of ricotta sitting in the fridge as your lasagna is “resting” out of the oven!
- And lastly, back to the shoes, mom again 🙂 she’d taught me to lace my shoes the same way, right over left all the way up. Even if no one ever notices, it makes it easier to pull them tighter on your foot. So, that’s the way i do it 🙂
I guess what i’m getting here is it’s not always about making the “Big Choices” in life … it’s about making one “better” choice at a time … even when no one is watching 🙂
