On the Other Hand

As i was pouring my second cup of coffee this morning, a song just washed over me as if it was playing clear as day … I smiled up as i took my cup and, as i started singing the song (quietly, it is 2am after all i don’t wanna wake the house up!) i informed the Spirit i was on it … You’re welcome for me NOT singing the song to y’all, but, it was Randy Travis’ “On the Other Hand” and along with it came today’s message … Not necessarily what his song meant, but, what He put on my heart to go with the title of the song and, honestly, has always been something i strive to do in life !!!

Whenever we’re faced with choices, forks in the road if you will, you could look at one hand as taking us down a path of anger, hate, or “a dark place” as some like to call it … Or, taking the other hand leading us to the light, even if it means swallowing our pride or maybe not ending up in what’s “fair” or “getting even” … Well … Think  about a Savior on a Cross … Whatever “wrong” or “unjust” is being done to me in that moment … It simply can’t compare to what He went through and yet He was able to find a way to peace … It doesn’t mean that i put my family at risk nor intentionally be taken advantage of, but, CHOOSING GRACE over “fair” is an action that we can make.

In the first bible reading today, the father rushing out to greet his son wasn’t just showing he was happy to see him, he was literally saving his son’s life … In that time, the shame that the second son had brought down on the house could have led to him being stoned to death IF the father had not acted as quickly as he did, but, he chose grace …

In the second reading, while the crowd was angry and “right” to condemn the woman, Jesus pointed something out that they’d not stopped to think about … Was anyone there sinless ??? Hmmmm …. He didn’t tell her what she did was “OK” … He did extend Grace …

Just a thought from a guy that’s now got a second cup of coffee and is now going to listen to some Randy Travis, so Operator, Please connect me …. (sorry, i had to!!!!)
