I’ll Do It My … er … His Way

Warning … Mixing song references here … I’ve been all around this great big world and i’ve done all kinds of things and done them my …. (then) His WAYYYYYYY … Ok … Time to back up … I don’t have a picture to show of this, but, a memory that i’ll take to my dying day is of a 14 year old Cecil on the trip of a lifetime that my parents and grandparents scraped up and saved to send me on … A trip to London, Paris, and Madrid as part of a school trip over the Easter break where we were paired up with another school from New Jersey … One evening we were boating down down the River Seine about 1/2 way through the trip and were all a little homesick a cassette (man, we are OLD!) of Van Halen’s latest tape came out and the song “California Girls” started playing … It was exactly what was needed … A sing along on the top floor of the boat with the Eiffel tower in frame was truly Heaven sent and was a memory i’ll never forget … Another boat, another time, another … I don’t want to give it away … So, let’s read on … it happened on another trip of a lifetime a quarter of a century later … We were in the Holy Land and my beloved was not well … It wasn’t anything that was super serious, but, a boat trip was definitely not in the cards that day, a day we were going to be on the Sea of Galilee … Now, everyone was SUPER nice and tried to make accommodations 7 ways till Sunday and Toni tried to insist i go … But, let’s face it … Leaving a sick wife on the shoreline with no means of communication while you hop on a boat in a foreign country, nope, not happening … But, that’s not the end of that story … While the tour group was out we were able to experience a local family having fun at the docks … We watched these kids and parents having a great time for a couple hours and, in the end, were able to share stories with our tour group later on … God had our backs the same way He did way back in Paris when i was a stubborn teen not knowing any better … Hopefully I’ll never do anything so dramatic that God has to get my attention the way He did with Jonah, but, knowing that our Loving Creator is constantly looking over us sending us little “love letters” is enough to let me “Do It HIIIISSSSSS WAAAAYYYYYY” (and, while i DO like me some Sinatra, we all know who REALLY is the Chairman of the Board!)

Bible Verses

Jonah 1 / Jonah 2 / Jonah 3 / Jonah 4

Questions

Have you ever seen God send you little “love letters” the way i’ve described here today with the two boat stories ??? If so, we’d love to hear them if you’d like to share !!!
