Ya know, there’s an expression i learned in shop class … “i’ve cut this board 7 times and it’s STILL TOO SHORT” … For when we go barkin’ up the wrong tree again and again or keep goin’ back to the same well expecting different results … Ya know, that class taught me a ton of stuff … So much so that when i had a little free money (ha!, what’s that!) after getting my first house, instead of buying a video game system or fancy car or, well anything like that, i bought a table saw … Since then my shop has changed a bit over the years and the tools are very well worn, which i’m very proud of … (any self respecting maker wouldn’t be caught dead with a “shiny new tool”!!!) … But, you know what i’ve learned over the 30 years of me having my own shop ??? (shhh, it’s a secret, so, please keep it between us!!!!) … The best projects are the ones that are done with others !!!!! When you’re building MORE than just the piece of wood in front of you … You’re building a stronger foundation too … I wonder if that’s why He chose to be a carpenter as His earthly profession …. Hmmmm … One of my proudest moments as a maker happened when we were loading up the super heavy “Ark” that we had just finished for our church into the back of the truck and the OG lil’bit, who had helped me build it turned to me and said, clear as day, “welp, dad, i guess that means we’re Levites” …. I smiled and asked why … He chuckled and said “cause we didn’t burst into flames when we picked it up” … That shared moment between father and son, maker and maker was an unforgettable moment for this ole guy 🙂

Do you have any hobbies that you share with others that make you feel the way that woodworking and carpentry does for me ??? If so, what are they ???
