Bacon and Jerusalem … Do I Have a Story for You

… well, it’s actually TWO stories but they’re so intertwined and let’s start with the bacon (doesn’t EVERY good story start with bacon!) … years ago we were teaching a Sunday School lesson on what gets us ready for worship each week and prepares us for church when one of our students pops up with “bacon” … she then proceeds to explain that while still in her bed she first starts hearing it as it gets to frying, followed by the smell, and by the time she’s in the kitchen she’s REALLY ready for breakfast and ready to eat …. kinda like when she walks into the church, she sees our steeple and smells “church smells” and hears “church bells” long before hearing us start running our mouths and starts preparing her heart and mind for church … it was such a SPOT ON analogy that simply blew our mind … now, how does this pertain to Jerusalem and devotionals you may be asking (while looking through your fridge for bacon) ??? well, you see, our Choir Director, Norton, was singing “The Holy City” on Easter Sunday (if you’ve never heard him sing this, it’s worth the spring break vacation to Daytona Beach just for that if you’re out of town) and i’m no longer in the pews of Westminster by the Sea, but, once again on a bus headed into the city of Jerusalem in 2019 with 40 or so other weary but excited travelers that have spent the last 8 days traveling all around Israel and will now be spending the last few days of our pilgrimage in the Holy City …. God doesn’t make mistakes there was absolutely a reason that His first King in that city was not only a warrior but someone that was a musician … in this ole guy’s opinion, i think it’s one of the most powerful tools in His arsenal keep the peace and love is music … oh, and bacon, but that would come in a few thousand years 🙂 …

Questions

do you have any power sights / sounds / smells that do for you what bacon does for that student or what the Holy City song did for me ??? (btw, In the Garden also is another one for me!) …
