ya know growing up I always had a tough time with THE biggest Christian day of the year … don’t get me wrong, I can sing “up from the ground He arose” with the best of’em, but, honestly, I was in my mid-30’s before I could TRULY celebrate the day fully … that’s ‘cause in the back of my mind there was no way I could separate the Sacrifice from the Resurrection … in the churches I had worshiped at we’d never had (or I’d never been aware of) Maundy Thursday services, so, the Passion was never really “observed,” so, even though the church would celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter, I really KNEW what happened in between and it gutted me … then along came the Mandy Thursday service when we started attending Westminster by the Sea … wow … just … wow … being able to go through the emotional journey of the Passion in a community event (I know that some communities have Good Friday services as well doing the same thing as an inter-faith version) allows you to then TRULY come into worship on Sunday and experience the empty tomb for He is Risen … allowing you to feel the weight of the cross while taking the journey through that fateful night … just sitting here writing this and thinking about it gives me chill bumps thinking about it … just thought I’d share and hope that you too will be part of the journey as well … if at all possible, I strongly recommend you find a worship community in your area on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday that you can experience this with in person, as this is truly one that is best done in – person … if you happen to live in or around the Central Florida Area, you are welcome to join us at Westminster by the Sea Presbyterian Church for the in-person event at 7pm on Thursday, April 2nd …
