An Ole Guy with New Tricks

one day i may ponder just why so many of these start off in the kitchen, either that or get me one of those fancy aprons and hats and a sveeeedishhhh accent (iykyk) but i digress … as i was makin some biscuits this mornin i started thinkin back to how its changed over the years … you see, back in the day it used to involve *gasp* flower and a rollin pin (for the safety of smart mouths in the house that may or may not resemble me we don’t have any of those in this abode!) and then they started involvin these cans from a grocery store and a baking sheet (there was a time i followed directions) but now it’s the same said cans but a well buttered cast iron skillet and a watchful eye (not the recommended time on the side of the can) is what we use and they turn out so much better … i’m thinkin’ your thinkin’ ok ok ok chefboyrcecil, thanks for the recipe, but, just what does this have to do with God or my devotions ??? good question 😊 … you see, if we all still did things the same was as we did a couple thousand years ago we’d be walking from house to house and sharing the Gospel and good news (not a bad idea!) and hoping everyone remembered things just right … now, as i pointed out, that’s a GREAT thing to do, but, since there’s ALSO advancements in reading, availability to bibles, communications, and, well, everything, as well as, unfortunately, ADD, how about let’s not leave all witnessing just to the power of the memory of folks that may or may not remember where they last put their keys or phone … our bible verses today both remind us that we absolutely need to treasure the past and revere it (again, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater!) but, “that’s the way we’ve always done it” shouldn’t exclude us from being able to embrace new ways to worship Him as well … i’ll give one very personal example … when i was saved i started carrying a small bible in my backpack and later in my car … it was only the New Testament and Psalms and the print was so small that i was very lucky to have the eyes of a young kid because i needed them to read it !!! … the only time a bigger bible would leave the house with me was when i was church bound … in 1998 (or 1999?) i bought software for a palm pilot (wow, i’m old!) that had the bible on it …. since then i’ve never left the house without at least 3 bibles with me … Just a thought from a guy that is now gonna go enjoy a cathead biscuit that’s extra buttery 😊 …

Questions

How do you feel about the “traditions” -vs- new stuff ??? We’re kinda caught in the middle in this household, we love a traditional church but, we embrace technology as well …
