being married to a first grade teacher has a HUGE perk … arts and crafts time gets to be a thing 😊 (c’mon … don’t ya wish you could too!) …. which leads me to this post … i’d promised my beloved that 28 “parachutes” would get cut out for her class yesterday if i had the time … then it turned out to be the craziest work day of the year so far … pretty much everything that could happen at work happened, and on the lil’bit front, well, he wasn’t quite over his flu AND didn’t like the fact that lots of folks were out of the house again, so, “clingy” is the word that comes to mind … but, at 6pm as i was watching the now finally settled down databases do their thing while Toni was bathing lil’bit, i figured it was time to tackle the promise i’d made to her about the parachutes … by this time i’d been up working since 1am and the lines were doing their own conga on the page, but, before i made the first cut i looked up at a dinosaur that “big lil’bit” made me years ago and thought that maybe, just maybe, one of these parachutes would end up as pride of place on a refrigerator or a desk overhang of a child wanting to show their mom or dad their work from school that day … so, after taking an extra gulp of coffee and couple extra deep breaths i cut each and every parachute as if that parachute was going to be given to lil’bit so he could make it for his mom or dad …. the reason i’m posting this ain’t ‘bout my mad craftin’ ability, but if we think about this in terms of our Christian witness … how many “parachutes” are we making each and every day ??? do we know which one is going to be the one that “sticks” or resonates with folks, or, sadly, turns folks away ??? I’ll give one good and one not so good example … let’s say that you’re in a crowded restaurant and stop to give thanks before breaking bread … someone on the other side of the room that may never know your name may use THAT as the final “straw” to say “yes” to saying it’s NOT to scary to profess Jesus as their Savior because they saw YOU do it … now, let’s take for example a not so good one, you could be in a grocery store having a bad day just as you do or say something that you DEFINTELY wouldn’t say or do in church one of the folks that you’ve been witnessing to over the past days, weeks, months comes around the corner …. hmmmmmmmmm …. just a thought from a guy that always wants to have a parachute at the ready ….
