ok … if you read or listened to the ssa from yesterday you know that this Sunday the kids are gonna hear an amended lesson i taught a decade or so ago, so, i figured i’d share a version of it with ya’ll (shhh, don’t tell them, it’s a surprise!) … at the beginning of the lesson, i’ll hand them all a sun catcher, hold it up to the light, and then ask them to paint it while hearing my lesson … you see, when God gave Moses the commandments and eventually the first five books of the Bible, and, throughout the next couple of thousand years, the rest of the books that make up the Old Testament (or Torah) they were words in scrolls that were studied and prayed upon and the Rabbis, Pharisees, Priests, Prophets, and other church leaders were there to interpret them for the rest of the people because (a) they were hard to understand and (b) they were in “black and white” (well, most likely more likely tan and brown since it was papyrus and ink, but, you get my meaning) … while divinely inspired, it was hard to see for the “normal person” because it was all just words on the page and they had to fill in the gaps themselves … until one day when God felt we were ready and everything changed … He sent His only Son to walk among us and SHOW us how to interpret all of those words, and do it perfectly … matter of fact, He’s the only person to have ever done it (and ever will!) … people wrote down what He did while here and 4 accounts of that made it into our New Testament, and then His followers and folks that learned from Him (or saw Him on a road!) then went out and spead His message!) and that’s what has made up the New Testament … now, what He did has brought not just the New, but BOTH Testaments into LiFE for us … thanks to HIM we have an example of how to live …. Through Him and His Advocate (the Holy Spirit) we can pray to God and our sins our forgiven … i can’t speak for everyone, but, for me, He has truly brought the Bible to life !!! (now, while teaching this lesson, i’ll have the youth painting the sun catchers and then ask them to hold it up to the light again … i’ll have them take the sun catchers home and put it close to where their Bible is and before they start to read their Bible, take a look at the sun catcher and think of how Jesus can bring it to life and say a little prayer thanking God for sending Him and ask Him to be with them while they study) … sooo …. that’s the lesson … feel free to use any part of it if you wish … God Bless You All !!!
