Times a Changin?

ya know, way back when, my pappeye used to tell me that we were spoiled rotten and were going to loose the “art of communication” because telephones were in pretty much every household now and no one had to (a) wait to tell folks important stuff and (b) *gasp* write letters to folks that weren’t in the same neighborhood, which meant that a conversation could take, literally (see what i did there!) months to take place … now, being the know it all i was, i pointed out that thanks to airmail and the post office, he was way better off than HIS grandfather who’d have to wait months have a single letter delivered a few states away, if he was even lucky enough to have it get there, then he’d change the subject and tell me how lucky i was about somethin’ else … now, why am i bringing this up … certainly not to promote my vast skills as a litigator, but, i hear a lot of the same things today with folks complainin’ about technology and the like … now, don’t get me wrong …. since time immortal it’s teenagers job to find ways to be lazy and at the same time it’s parents and grandparents job’s to complain about said laziness … and, i’m sure when ole Gutenberg came out with the fancy pressin’ thing his mom was sayin’ he just didn’t want to do lines that day 😊 … but, i digress … personally, while i do think we need to make sure and get AHEAD of what the kids are doing and UNDERSTAND it, if we put our heads in the sand and try to think it’s just not happening, well, they’ll just find OTHER folks to give them answers, and, maybe that’s not the folks we’d like teachin’ our kids … personally, after raisin’ one with Toni and being lucky enough to see a LOT of them grow up around me, i think being a part of their lives, asking questions, and being engaged is a much better way to navigate this scary new world … make it a bit less artificial and a little bit more beneficial to us all … just my $.02 (or, what would that be in bit coin …. hmmmmm) ….
